Biography of Dr. Aagenes

Dr. Nancy AagenesThe depth and maturity of Dr. Nancy Aagenes' commitment to patient care is reflected in every aspect of her work. Dr. Nancy Aagenes has practiced naturopathic medicine and acupuncture in our community since l989. She earned her naturopathic doctorate at Bastyr University in Seattle. She received two years of academic training in acupuncture at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle, and completed 2000 hour apprenticeship in acupuncture. She is has passed the exam in menopause competency given by the North American Menopause Society. For medical doctors and naturopathic doctors this is the meaningful credential for those treating women at and beyond menopausal age.

Dr. Aagenes was president of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) from 1999 to 2001, and served eight years on their Board of Directors. In 1991 she was named Naturopathic Physician of the Year by the AANP. In 2005 Dr. Aagenes was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Bastyr University. As former Legislative Chair of the Montana Association of Naturopathic Physicians she has been an instrumental leader in guiding legislative work for laws to insure the highest standards for naturopathic practice in Montana and the best possible access for insurance reimbursement for Montana patients.  From 2009 to 2011 she served on the Alternative Health Care Board which licenses Montana naturopathic physicians.

Continuing medical education is a high priority for Nancy. She is regularly enrolled at the Institute for Women's Health and Integrative Medicine. This is a school for advanced practitioners--mostly naturopathic doctors and medical doctors.   This school focuses on integrating therapies from conventional and naturopathic schools so that understanding of both continues to grow.

Dr. Aagenes also attends continuing education for medical doctors at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena. She often attends the annual conference of the North American Menopause Society -an intensive four day update held annually primarily attended by conventional doctors. One year with 1700 physicians in attendance, Dr. Aagenes was one of only two naturopathic doctors registered.

Dr. Aagenes is well connected in the conventional medical community in Helena. She often serves as a bridge into that community and an advocate for patients with conventional medical institutions. She integrates her work with conventional physicians and many patients have benefited from her sophisticated willingness to work across the barriers and boundaries.
